Gwynfryn play area officially reopened

The recent renovations at Gwynfryn play area have been enjoyed by local children for a few months now, and we had hoped to hold an official opening ceremony on 21 April.

The weather that day was cold and wet, however, so we postponed the event until 7 July when the sun shone and the rain stayed away.

Minera Community Council Vice-chair Councillor David Kelly invited Mrs Pat Edwards, widow of our late Chair Councillor John Edwards, to cut the ribbon, following which a delegation of children from Minera School enjoyed a short period of exclusive use of the facilities before returning to school for their Summer Fair.

We also dedicated a new bench by the football pitch in memory of Councillor John Edwards, remembering his many years of service to the community and passion for providing safe places for our children to play. John’s son Sion and Pat’s two sisters were also present to remember him and admire the new facilities which will enhance the play area in years to come.
