Jubilee trees planted around our communities

Minera Community Council decided last year that trees would be planted in each of our communities to mark the Platinum Jubilee. It’s not good practice to plant trees in the middle of Summer – especially in the drought we were having last year – so it’s only now that the trees have been planted.
There is a pair of pine trees in Gwynfryn which will be augmented by a memorial bench when we officially open the new play area later in the Spring, a Cherry and a Birch in New Brighton, An Oak in Minera play area and a Birch by the seat at Five Crosses. We will shortly be placing commemorative plaques at the sites to finish them off.
The New Brighton trees are the first step in a bigger plan to improve the rockery area by the phone box which has been a bit neglected in the last few years, and it’s nice to see the new Cherry tree there is already about to come into blossom.
