The weather was kind to us on Saturday as around sixty residents of the Minera Communities gathered to pay their respects at our Remembrance event in the centre of Minera. The service was ably led by Elin Jones, daughter of Councillor Nigel Jones, and Councillors Hazel Field and Dave Kelly performed the official tasks of laying the Council’s wreath and reading the names of the fallen from the two World Wars. Wreaths were also laid by children from Minera School and officers of North Wales Police, with a number of individual crosses and memorials added by those present. We are grateful to Spencer Williams, Head Teacher of Minera School, for reading part of the service; the Salvation Army for providing us with a bugler to play the last post, reveille and a melody for the two anthems; the Royal British Legion for providing their Standard Bearer and escort, who performed their roles with great dignity, and to Coedpoeth Community Council for copying our orders of service. Refreshments were enjoyed afterwards at the Tyn y Capel, and it was very pleasing to see Mrs Pat Edwards and members of her family among those in attendance on what was the first Remembrance service in Minera since the sad loss of our former Chair, Councillor John Edwards, for whom this day and this occasion were always foremost in his mind. It was therefore an honour for myself to place a wreath on behalf of Minera Community Council at the Coedpoeth Remembrance ceremony on Sunday, as John himself had done on our behalf for many years past.
